Author WILLIAM STEINFELDT
I grew up in rural Iowa on a 280 acre grain and livestock farm. By age 13 I was loading haven on a rack behind the hay bailor for my fathers custom hay bailing operation. Some days we could bail up to 10,000 bails, a very long day for a thirteen year old boy. Each bail weighing up to 60 pounds, you do the math, I worked hard from an early age. At age nineteen, I met the LOVE of my life and we have been married for 50 years. I worked as a supervisor in the plastic industry for thirty- five years where we made everything from the Starship Enterprise model to appliance components, to lawn furnature and finishing up at a tier 1 automotive plant supplieing parts to Mitsubishi, Ford, GM, Chrysler, Dodge and Toyota. A tier 1 plant supplies parts to their customers on a on demand contract, meaning parts made today are on cars as quick as tomorrow leaving no room for problems or delays, a very stressful environment that was detremental to my health. As luck would have it when Toyota had the accelarator problem I was released from employment after 15 years of service and almost dieing from the stress from the workplace. We moved back to Iowa after loosing our home to forclosure, unemployment and then disability payments were not enough to maintain our home. As a supervisor my policy was that no-one worked for me, they worked with me or as I told them I worked with them. I would mop floors and give breaks, if my associates were assigned a job I made sure they knew I would do it as well.
Over the years, I had several jobs, I worked for the telephone company as a lineman, to factory work, I managed a Turkey farm, worked for a seedcorn company, and made industrial cutting tools for John Deere Engine works. I did not graduate from high school but recieved my GED at age 29, and when the agriculture equipment industry took a dive in 1980 I enrolled in Collage and recieved an AA. degree from Ellsworth Collage. I may have been a slow learner but I graduated with a 3.9 grade average. Not bad for a thirty three year old. I encourage everyone to get as much education as they can, no matter what their age. I have spoken to many people about getting higher education. One of my employers offered me the chance to take the Dale Carnage Public speaking class, I jumped at the chance and enjoyed it very much. I encourage everyone to take this class for self improvement, it is well worth the effort.
As a supervisor I was entitled to observe people and their problems, a saying for being a good supervisor was, 'You mary them, and you bury them, and treat them with respect along the way.' I attended several weddings and more than enough funerals, this gives me a certin perspective into peoples lives.
The books you read are a spectrum of real life, my wife Marjorie is plaged with Panic attacks and depression as well as obsessive compulsive disorder. What you read comes from real life experiences, my wife still suffers from these ailments but is living with them. We have are good days and bad days. But today there are a lot more good than bad. What I write is truthful, not story telling but what has worked for us. Our daughter suffered from some of these ailments but has conquered her demons.
We hope you enjoy these books, enjoy.
